Welcome to Cowboy Earl's EZ Pickin'

Sample Lessons

This method is so easy that it is simply amazing! It works like this: A number represents the string and fret that you play. Strings are counted from the bottom up. Frets are the metal pieces that run across the neck. Frets are counted from the headstock (where you tune the instrument) toward the body of the guitar, banjo, etc. The first digit refers to the string number while the second digit refers to the fret. So when you see the number "13", you place a finger from the left hand on the first string at the third fret and pluck the string with finger from the right hand. Just as in reading, a comma will indicate a pause in the music. Specific fingering and playing techniques are covered in more detail in the manual. For now, just play these songs and have fun. That's what music is supposed to be - Fun!!

Come on now, don't be shy... Our first song, "Amazing Grace", starts with "40". A Zero indicates that no left hand finger is used. The string is plucked or picked open. String 4  Fret 0 (open)
